Hullo everyone! Me doing my, apparently, yearly update.
I got quite ill this past semester so I've taken a leave of absence this spring and moved home. As I've been recuperating, I realized some of my health issues were stemming from the absolute frustration and stress caused by my uni. I've had some good experiences there, but lately I've been thinking I've reached an academic plateau. My literature classes are an absolute bore, even the upper division ones are little more than homework time for other classes. My art classes, which were fun and let me experiment with new technology, have fallen short of what I hoped to achieve. At this point, all the upper division I have left are more or less studio time and independent study. This would be fine, but I've still so many technical things to learn- perspective, anatomy, proper color theory, etc!
Then some friends suggested, "why not transfer?"
Huh, why didn't I think of that? Like last year?
So I've applied to a new university and should hear from them by May 1st. Even though they don't have a BFA program, like my current uni, I'd be getting a more focused degree in illustration. The technical classes I need are available at more than just intro levels, I can take things like "narrative illustration" and "character design," AND I still get a final show (which gets listed with the rest of the gallery openings in Seattle- talk about exposure!)
In the mean time, I'm chilling at my folks place trying to get healthy again. I've got a work schedule set up, so I hope to actually get some art done while I'm here.
But enough about me! How's your year treating you so far? Any summer plans?
Ta!!

Go-go Gadget Senior Year!
I've been "senior" status for a long, long time (double major makes you immune to that early, I think) but I officially wrote the words "graduation" on my calendar and had to sit back for a moment. It's been a long, long run but I'm finally FINALLY able to receive one of the most expensive pieces of paper of my life.
I'm trying to channel my excitement and impatience to start the last school year into productivity (hence, at long last, a journal!). Expect a few big updates in the next few days followed by more reasonable smatterings of work.

Until next time,

Updates!
Uh... journal submission looks different than last time. Guess that's what happens when I vanish for four months.
Hey hey! It's an update!
How's life?
This is a lame journal but I actually have to go to work, like three minutes ago, so bear with me.
Most recent pieces are from my mapmaking/bookbinding class as well as personal pieces for my bfa program.
As always critiques are welcome.
A letter
Dear Catrosie,
I don't really know how to tell you this, but our horoscopes don't match. I think I realized it the First of May in your camping car when I saw you sit on the crazy monk. I'm sure you're ashamed enough to understand that I get turned on by garbage men and that there's no solution to this. I'm returning your ring to you, but I'll keep your photo as a memory. You should also know that I never openly mocked your eggplant-fetishism.
In pain and with greetings to your frog Leonard,
Blitzcatt
